Oedipus in search of Colonus

At the 59th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale 2022, Loukia Alavanou represents Greece with the exhibition Oedipus in Search of Colonus curated by Heinz Peter Schwerfel.
The artist and filmmaker invites the audience to travel through time and space with a fifteen-minute VR360 film, a mix of documentary and fiction shot in the Roma community of Nea Zoi Aspropyrgos in Western Attica with amateur actors. The film is installed in a vaulted projection space that features special standing chairs based on designs by the architect Takis Zenetos. The exhibition at the Hellenic Pavilion connects the work of Sophocles with contemporary social realities, highlighting overt political issues.
The catalog accompanying the exhibition contains introductory notes by Lina Mendoni, Nikolas Giatromanolakis and Lina Tsikouta, the editorial text by Heinz Peter Schwerfel, a discussion between Loukia Alavanou and the British art critic and psychoanalyst Darian Leader, a text by Giorgos Tzirtzilakis about Takis Zenetos and the work of Loukia Alavanou, and finally, research material for the installation at the Greek pavilion, as well as impressions/images from the pre-production stage of the VR360 film in the Nea Zoi slum.

Στην 59η Διεθνή Έκθεση Τέχνης της Μπιενάλε Βενετίας 2022, η Λουκία Αλαβάνου εκπροσωπεί την Ελλάδα με την έκθεση Oedipus in Search of Colonus σε επιμέλεια του Heinz Peter Schwerfel.
Η καλλιτέχνις και κινηματογραφίστρια προσκαλεί το κοινό να ταξιδέψει στον χρόνο και τον χώρο με ένα δεκαπεντάλεπτο φιλμ εικονικής πραγματικότητας VR360, ένα μίγμα ντοκιμαντέρ και μυθοπλασίας τραβηγμένο στην κοινότητα Ρομά της Νέας Ζωής Ασπροπύργου στη Δυτική Αττική με ερασιτέχνες ηθοποιούς. Το φιλμ είναι εγκατεστημένο σε έναν θολωτό χώρο προβολής που διαθέτει ειδικές καρέκλες στάσης βασισμένες σε σχέδια του αρχιτέκτονα Τάκη Ζενέτου. Η έκθεση στο Ελληνικό Περίπτερο συνδέει τo έργο του Σοφοκλή με σύγχρονες κοινωνικές πραγματικότητες, αναδεικνύοντας απροκάλυπτα πολιτικά ζητήματα.
Ο κατάλογος που συνοδεύει την έκθεση περιέχει προλογικά σημειώματα από τη Λίνα Μενδώνη, τον Νικόλα Γιατρομανωλάκη και τη Λίνα Τσίκουτα, το επιμελητικό κείμενο του Heinz Peter Schwerfel, μία συζήτηση της Λουκίας Αλαβάνου με τον βρετανό τεχνοκριτικό και ψυχαναλυτή Darian Leader, ένα κείμενο του Γιώργου Τζιρτζιλάκη για τον Τάκη Ζενέτο και το έργο της Λουκίας Αλαβάνου, και τέλος, ερευνητικό υλικό για την εγκατάσταση στο ελληνικό περίπτερο, καθώς και εντυπώσεις/εικόνες από το στάδιο της προ-παραγωγής της ταινίας VR360 στην παραγκούπολη της Νέας Ζωής.
